Mansion Poker Tournaments A poker
tournament is an event in which players compete
for all or part of a prize pool. The prizes for
winning are usually derived from the entry fees,
though outside funds may be entered as well.
Each player pays a fixed entry tournament fee in
return for a certain quantity of play chips or
in tournament game currency. The chips are
non-negotiable, having no cash value and can
only be used in the game. Players compete until
one person has won all the chips in play
Cost of playing
The tournament cost for entering consists of a
buy-in amount that contributes to the total
prize pool for the tournament, plus a
registration fee.
E.g. A $10 + $1 tournament consists of a $10
buy-in that is added to the prize pool and a $1
registration fee.
Guaranteed tournaments
A guaranteed tournament is one that has stated
before the start of the tournament that there is
a minimum prize pool guaranteed by MANSION
regardless of the number of participants. The
prize pool can increase above the guaranteed
amount depending on the number of entries.
Free-roll tournaments
Free-rolls are tournaments where the prize pool
has been entirely funded by MANSION. They cost
nothing to enter, but still have prizes for the
top finishers.
Sit and Go tournaments
Sit and Go tournaments start when the required
number of players have registered for the
tournament. These can be single table
tournaments, shorthanded, heads-up or
multi-table.
Scheduled tournaments
Scheduled tournaments are very popular and
provide players with the opportunity to invest a
small amount of money to win a large cash prize.
These tournaments start at a scheduled time,
which is visible in the lobby. Players are able
to register once the tournament is visible in
the lobby. Play takes place on as many tables as
necessary to accommodate all players that
register for the tournament. During the
tournament, as players are knocked out,
remaining players are moved until play reaches
the final table.
Satellite tournaments
A satellite is a multi-table tournament in which
the prize is entry to another tournament. These
tournaments may be online events or live events.
Sometimes a satellite tournament will even have
its own satellites in which the prize is an
entry to a further satellite.
Variations
Within the basic tournament structure there is
considerable room for variation and betting
structures. Complete details of the type and
variation to the game will be given for each
tournament in the tournament lobby.
• Freezeout
A Freezeout tournament has no rebuys or add-on.
If you lose all your chips at any stage in a
freezeout tournament, you are eliminated from
the tournament.
• Rebuys
Many tournaments permit "rebuys". Rebuys allow
players, to purchase more chips if their chip
stack falls below a certain level. The cost of
rebuys are generally the same as the initial
tournament buy-in and all rebuys are added to
the tournament prize pool. Depending on the
individual rules of the tournament, the number
of rebuys may be limited. The "Rebuy period" is
the amount of time rebuys are allowed. It is
usually for the first 30 or 60 minutes of the
tournament. At the end of the rebuy period,
players are offered an add-on. This is
effectively a single rebuy that everyone in the
tournament is allowed regardless of chip stack.
After the add-ons are complete, the tournament
turns into a freezeout.
• Rapid Tournaments
Are tournaments in which blind levels increase
at a faster rate and the player will have less
time to act.
